Well, the novel is about 2/3 of the way through, which means it is time to start seriously considering the act of publishing the manuscript.
For those who do not know, there are two types of publishing: self-publishing, and publishing houses, or traditional publishing. For my first novel, I went the self-publishing route, and I loved it. I had complete control over my product, it was published in less than a month, and it looked fantastic, exactly the way I wanted it to look. But there were two major downsides: it cost a lot more, and there was no marketing. It was all on me to market.
Traditional publishing subverts this. There is little cost, and marketing is almost entirely done by the publishing house (they want to make money too). However, you tend to lose control of the product via the line of editors, you don't get a choice in the way it looks, and it could take months or even years to finally be published (if they even accept you). There are guidelines to follow, and your product isn't simply yours.
I want to go the self-publishing route again, but this isn't a game anymore. I need this book to make a serious profit. And I'm really concerned that, by self-publishing, I won't make enough to make it seriously worthwhile. The package I would choose would probably range from $1000-$2000 dollars, meaning that, if I made $20/book (which is rounding up), I'd have to sell over 100 books to make a slim profit.
Now I would work my ass off to publicize this book, including posting on my blog and on here as well as asking to host several book signings. But eventually it would have to travel by ear by those I don't know. And that process scares me more than anything, thanks to my low self-esteem. I find it very hard to believe a mass amount of people would like my novel and tell their friends about it. I have to see that to believe that.
I don't know, what do you guys think? I really want to go the self-publishing route because I want the speed and control. But that requires taking a massive leap of faith. Do you guys think it would be worth it?

I'm Continuing, but...
Hey everyone!
I am going to continue the Yu-Gi-Oh! fanfiction "A Much Needed Vacation" on Fanfiction.net under my alternative username, "Violet Wings." I must admit I like the upload style on Fanfiction much more than here.
For those who have been following along with the fanfic so far, thank you so much for your support!
The link to the story is here: Fanfiction link
The NPC Store!
With character creation being my favorite part of story-telling, combined with my love for games like Vampire: The Masquerade, I have decided to create a new blog solely dedicated to NPCs and minor characters found in story-telling games and books.
I present to you all, The NPC Store!
The idea came from a list of possible NPCs I found in a handout for a White Wolf game. I kept thinking how, in a lot of story-telling games, every store clerk sounds the same, every nurse acts the same, etc. Even though they're minor characters who show up once or twice and then vanish, they can still have meaningful and individual interactions with the player
Chapter 2 and NPCs
Good morning everyone!
Chapter 2 of the fanfic is now posted - and with new cover art! My good friend SmuttyMcSmutFace designed some cover art for the puppyshipping story, so please feel free to check out the chapter, then check out her link once you're done reading!
I've also started designing some NPC worksheets and ideas for those playing D&D, Vampire: The Masquerade, etc., and hope to start posting those sometime next week. I know this previous week was a little dry in the writing, but I have some things in the editing stage for this week. :)
Thanks for all your support, everyone.
I Will Not Celebrate
Today is the 4th of July in America. And I will not celebrate.
I will not celebrate a country that has increasingly treasured ignorance over intelligence.
I will not celebrate a country that keeps families in cages at a border, starving them and withholding necessary medical supplies.
I will not celebrate a country being run into the ground by an ego-megalomaniac, a narcissist whose cult following makes this country look like an insane asylum to both outsiders and natives.
I will not celebrate a country that puts guns over children's lives.
I will not celebrate a country that promotes "boot-strapping" and "working hard" only to cater to

Bookstores, for the most part, don't handle business with self-published people, since they know they're risky. The package I would obtain for self-publishing would allow big bookstores to have the books in warehouses in case people ordered them, but it wouldn't be on a bookshelf. I would have to go to local bookstores and libraries to find help with setting up book signings and what-not. I don't have many contacts, but I do have my college professors who might know some people. And I could probably set something up with the college, on that note.
